Maria H. Jacome
Senior Paralegal | Colombian Attorney
Professional Background
Maria H. Jacome brings a unique international perspective to the firm. With more than a decade of combined experience as an attorney in Colombia and a senior paralegal in the United States, she has worked extensively in civil litigation, corporate law, real estate transactions and construction matters. Every file she handles gets her strong analytical skills and exceptional case management.
Before relocating to the United States, she practiced law in Colombia, representing companies and individuals in litigation, contract negotiations, administrative proceedings and regulatory matters. As Legal Advisor to the Municipal Council of San Estanislao de Kostka, she drafted policies, negotiated contracts and supported governmental operations.
After the move, she built an accomplished paralegal career in bankruptcy, real estate and commercial litigation: preparing bankruptcy filings, coordinating complex real estate transactions, drafting legal documents, managing closings, forming business entities and assisting with estate planning and litigation.
As Senior Paralegal at Michael Garcia, P.A., Maria supports litigation over construction defects, breach of contract claims, lien enforcement and construction delays in state and federal courts. She prepares pleadings, motions, discovery, affidavits and trial materials, handles legal and factual research and document productions, coordinates mediation and trial preparation, and is a key liaison between clients, experts and opposing counsel. Florida’s construction filings are familiar ground too, including Notices to Owner, Claims of Lien and Notices of Commencement.
Maria holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Florida International University, a Paralegal Certificate from the University of Miami and a law degree from Universidad Libre in Cartagena, Colombia. Admitted to practice law in Colombia, she is also a commissioned Florida Notary Public and is fluent in English and Spanish.
